Yale Smart Locks

Connect Teebly to Yale to enable automated access control

Overview

Yale is a leading manufacturer of smart locks including the Assure and Nextouch series. Through the Yale Access app and cloud platform, Yale provides remote lock control and access management for Wi-Fi-connected smart locks. Teebly integrates with Yale Access to enable automated access control, allowing you to enable automated access for your customers.

Prerequisites

Important Requirements

Before connecting Yale to Teebly, ensure you have:

For Wi-Fi-Connected Yale Locks:

  • Yale lock with built-in Wi-Fi OR a lock with the Yale Access Upgrade Kit installed
  • Yale Access app (iOS / Android)
  • Stable Wi-Fi connection for your lock

For Z-Wave Yale Locks:

  • Yale Z-Wave network module installed in your lock
  • Samsung SmartThings Hub (3rd generation) or Aeotec Smart Home Hub

Prepare Your Yale Account

The setup process differs depending on how your Yale lock connects:

For Wi-Fi-Connected Yale Locks (Yale Access App)

1. Verify Wi-Fi capability

Check if your Yale lock has built-in Wi-Fi. If not, you'll need to purchase and install the Yale Access Upgrade Kit to enable Wi-Fi connectivity and app control.

2. Set up the Yale Access app

Download the Yale Access app. Create an account if you don't have one. Follow the in-app setup wizard to add your Yale locks.

3. Install the Yale Access Upgrade Kit (if needed)

If your lock doesn't have built-in Wi-Fi, install the Yale Access Upgrade Kit following the manufacturer's instructions. This kit enables your lock to connect to the Yale Access app.

4. Connect locks to Wi-Fi

In the Yale Access app, connect each lock to your Wi-Fi network. Ensure the lock has a stable internet connection and shows as online in the app.

5. Test lock operation

Use the Yale Access app to lock and unlock each device remotely to verify connectivity before connecting to Teebly.

6. Record your credentials

Note your Yale Access app email and password. You'll need these credentials to connect your Yale account to Teebly.

For Z-Wave Yale Locks (via SmartThings)

1. Purchase required hardware

Ensure you have a Yale Z-Wave network module installed in your lock and a Samsung SmartThings Hub (3rd generation) or Aeotec Smart Home Hub.

2. Set up SmartThings

Download the SmartThings app (iOS / Android) and create an account. Follow the app's setup wizard to configure your SmartThings hub.

3. Pair Yale locks to SmartThings

Add each Yale lock to your SmartThings hub using Z-Wave pairing:

  • In the SmartThings app, tap the + icon and select Add Device
  • Select Scan nearby or choose Lock from device categories
  • Follow the in-app instructions to pair your Yale lock
  • The lock must be within Z-Wave range during pairing (typically 30-40 feet)

4. Verify Z-Wave connectivity

Test lock operation through the SmartThings app to ensure proper pairing and connectivity.

5. Test lock controls

Use the SmartThings app to lock and unlock each device to verify they're responding correctly before connecting to Teebly.

6. Record your SmartThings credentials

Note your SmartThings account email and password. You'll need these to connect your locks to Teebly.

Connect Your Devices to Teebly

The connection process depends on your lock type:

For Wi-Fi-Connected Yale Locks

  1. Log into the Teebly Dashboard
  2. Navigate to Operations > Access Control
  3. Click Add devices
  4. Select Yale from the list of available access control providers
  5. Enter your Yale account credentials
  6. Select the Yale lock devices you want to be accessible to your customers during their bookings

For Z-Wave Yale Locks

  1. Log into the Teebly Dashboard
  2. Navigate to Operations > Access Control
  3. Click Add devices
  4. Select SmartThings from the list of available access control providers
  5. Enter your SmartThings account credentials
  6. Select the Yale lock devices you want to be accessible to your customers during their bookings

Testing Your Integration

This will send a live unlock command to the selected Yale device. Ensure that it is safe to do so before proceeding.

After connecting your devices in Teebly, test that the unlock functionality works as expected:

  1. Navigate to Operations > Access Control
  2. Click the Test active device button

If the test is successful and your device unlocks, your integration is complete! Your customers will now be able to access your facility during their bookings.

Monitoring Access Requests

Teebly logs all access requests for monitoring and troubleshooting purposes. You can find access requests for the last 30 days by navigating to Operations > Door Access Logs.

Logs are also accessible within individual booking details and are not limited to the last 30 days.

Note: All requests with a "Granted" status indicate that Teebly authorized the request and sent an unlock command to the door reader.

This does not guarantee that the device has received or successfully processed the unlock command. Factors such as network connectivity, device functionality, or physical obstructions at the door may prevent the door from unlocking.

Troubleshooting

  • Open the Yale Access app and verify locks are visible and online
  • Check that locks are connected to Wi-Fi with adequate signal strength
  • If using Yale Access Upgrade Kit, verify it's properly installed
